Capetí, Cemaco, Panama

Capetí is located in the Darien province, surrounded by the region of Embera Wounaan. The local language of Panama varies from community to community-based on indigenous heritage. The languages spoken in Capetí include Spanish and Wounaan.

The community of Capetí has received three water projects, the first 30 years ago and the most recently abandoned ten years ago. Their previous water systems are incomplete and inconsistent, compounded by frequent breaks in the mainline. With two pump houses, neither fully functioning, the community of Capetí is in great need of a sustainable and consistent clean water system.

The Capetí community shows a great need and desire for community development and involvement. Capetí, and the surrounding region of Embera Wounaan, have an infant mortality rate of 30.32, rampant waterborne illnesses, and a median monthly income of less than $100. Despite their circumstances, the community will contribute labor towards their water project in addition to a commitment to future maintenance.

Solea Water is still supplying the community of Capetí with clean water and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education.
