Villa Caleta, Darién, Panama

In Villa Caleta, Solea Water upgraded the pump that supplies water to the community. We also provided technical support to the community members to reduce the risk of a future break in the pump.

Utilizing scraps from a host of failed projects and a fund of $3,000 from a community friend, we installed an infiltration well, increased the photovoltaic bank, and built a housing structure for the panels and battery bank. The community had already secured and installed a storage tank and distribution system. They are enjoying clean, consistent water!

Through the efforts of this project, Solea Water sees a brighter future for the people of Villa Caleta. This includes improved health, decreased infant mortality, decreased waterborne illnesses, increased time in the classroom for students, and an overall increase in the quality of life for the people of Villa Caleta.

Project Details

phase 1

Solea Water’s in-country visited the community to assess the needs. It was discovered that the community needed to upgrade their pump and technical support. The team determined the project's cost and received partial funding from a friend of Villa Caleta. The remainder of the project’s funding came from Solea Water donations, 100% of which go straight to the field.

PHASE 2

In June 2017, the project was completed by the team. The water system is now pumping lots of crystal clear water for the entire community.

To maximize the capacity of this existing pump, our team believes it is beneficial to upgrade the solar panels for the community. This remainder of the project will cost $3,600 and Solea Water is in the process of fundraising for the remaining steps.
